The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, has accused Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of dragging the state backward since taking office in May 2022. Speaking on Thursday, Basiru claimed that Adeleke’s administration is more focused on misappropriating public funds than delivering development to residents. He criticized the governor’s leadership style and questioned the transparency of financial decisions made under his watch.
Basiru stated that instead of prioritizing infrastructure, education, healthcare, and job creation, the current administration appears to be engaged in activities that undermine public trust. “What we are seeing in Osun is not governance; it is looting,” he said, adding that the APC remains committed to holding the government accountable. He emphasized that the party would continue to monitor the use of state resources and speak out against any form of corruption or mismanagement.
The APC official also highlighted that the state’s economy has not shown significant improvement under Adeleke’s leadership. According to Basiru, key sectors such as agriculture, transportation, and power supply remain underdeveloped despite available funds. He pointed out that several projects initiated during the previous administration have been stalled or abandoned, further deepening the developmental gap.
He called on citizens to remain vigilant and demand accountability from their leaders. “Governor Adeleke must stop pretending to govern and start governing properly,” Basiru urged. He warned that if the current trajectory continues, the people of Osun may face worsening insecurity, unemployment, and poverty.
Basiru’s comments come amid rising political tensions in the state, with opposition parties accusing the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of poor performance. The APC has intensified its campaign for the next gubernatorial election, positioning itself as the alternative that can restore order and deliver results.
Despite the criticism, Governor Adeleke’s office has not yet responded publicly to Basiru’s allegations. However, supporters of the governor argue that his administration has delivered visible projects in education, health, and infrastructure, including road repairs and school renovations. They maintain that progress takes time and should not be judged solely by short-term metrics.
As the 2027 gubernatorial election draws nearer, political discourse in Osun is expected to intensify. The accusations from the APC could influence voter sentiment and shape the narrative around governance and accountability in the state. The coming months will likely see increased scrutiny of both the executive and legislative arms of government as stakeholders prepare for the next electoral cycle.
