Troops Capture Suspected Boko Haram Fuel Supplier in Borno State

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected logistics supplier to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, following an intelligence-led operation on July 15. The arrest, carried out at approximately 3:00 p.m., was conducted by soldiers from the 149 Battalion in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The operation was based on credible human intelligence that pointed to the suspect’s involvement in supporting terrorist activities in the Binduldul–Kareto axis.

Security expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the development in a statement shared on X. He identified the suspect as Ali Umar, a 23-year-old man who was intercepted while allegedly engaged in logistics operations for insurgents. During the operation, security forces recovered a Volkswagen Golf vehicle with registration number BO KGG 268AA and a Tecno mobile phone from the suspect’s possession.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that Umar confessed to supplying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters operating in the region. This fuel supply is critical for the movement of terrorist vehicles and equipment, making such logistics networks a key target for counter-insurgency efforts. The suspect’s arrest underscores the importance of disrupting supply chains that sustain terrorist operations in the North-East.

The 149 Battalion is currently holding Ali Umar in custody for further investigation and necessary legal actions. This development is part of Operation HADIN KAI’s broader strategy to dismantle terrorist logistics networks and weaken the operational capacity of insurgent groups. The operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven military actions, especially when coordinated with civilian security partners like the CJTF.

The arrest comes amid ongoing efforts to restore stability in Borno State, which has been heavily affected by insurgency. Security forces continue to target not only combatants but also those who support them through logistical, financial, or material means. By cutting off these support systems, military operations aim to reduce the frequency and impact of terrorist attacks across the region.

This latest success demonstrates the commitment of Nigerian security agencies to neutralize threats at their source. As operations continue, the focus remains on dismantling the infrastructure that enables terrorism, ensuring long-term peace and security in the North-East. The arrest of Ali Umar sends a clear message to others involved in supporting insurgents: no one is beyond reach.
