NAF Conducts Airstrikes, Destroys Terrorist Enclave in Borno State

The Nigerian Air Force has successfully destroyed a terrorist enclave in Yaganari, Gezuwa area of Borno State, during precision airstrikes carried out on July 10, 2024, as part of Operation HADIN KAI. The operation, conducted based on credible intelligence, targeted a known hub for terrorist activities and logistics, resulting in the destruction of key infrastructure and the neutralisation of several insurgents. The Air Force confirmed that the mission was executed with high accuracy, minimising collateral damage while maximising impact on enemy capabilities.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, disclosed the details in a statement released on Saturday. He explained that intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions prior to the strike confirmed the presence of terrorist structures and supply depots in the area. These findings were critical in planning and executing the targeted airstrikes, which were carried out to disrupt the enemy’s operational tempo and deny them safe zones for regrouping.

The airstrikes were part of a broader strategy to degrade the capacity of terrorist groups operating in the Northeast region. The Nigerian Air Force continues to play a pivotal role in supporting ground operations by conducting aerial surveillance, reconnaissance, and direct strikes against enemy positions. This latest mission underscores the military’s commitment to using advanced technology and intelligence to achieve strategic objectives with precision.

Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, commended the personnel involved for their professionalism and dedication. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s resolve to sustain offensive operations against terrorist elements across the region. According to Aneke, the Air Force will continue to coordinate closely with ground troops to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent them from establishing safe havens or rebuilding their strength.

The destruction of the terrorist enclave in Yaganari demonstrates the effectiveness of integrated military operations in countering insurgency. The use of intelligence-led precision strikes has become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy, particularly in areas where ground operations face logistical and security challenges. By targeting key infrastructure and leadership nodes, the military aims to weaken the enemy’s ability to plan and execute attacks on civilians and security forces.

As the Nigerian Air Force continues its campaign against terrorism, the success in Yaganari sends a strong message to insurgents that no location is beyond reach. The ongoing operations reflect a sustained and coordinated effort to restore peace and security in the Northeast, ensuring that communities can return to normal life. The military remains vigilant and committed to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.
