Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects in a major intelligence-led operation targeting criminal activities in Asaba metropolis, marking a significant step in the state’s fight against crime and public disorder. The operation, carried out on Saturday, 4 July 2026, was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, and involved officers from various units of the command. Acting on credible intelligence from the State Intelligence Department (SID), police raided known black spots, brothels, and suspected illicit drug dens across the city. The arrests include 102 males and 100 females, all charged with offences related to operating brothels, possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, and other criminal activities.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the details in a statement sent to the DAILY POST correspondent in Warri. He emphasized that the operation was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and order in the state. In addition to the arrests, law enforcement officers impounded five motor vehicles, ten tricycles, and ten motorcycles. These seizures were made due to violations of existing traffic regulations, the state’s restriction on tricycle operations, and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas. The move underscores the command’s commitment to enforcing both criminal and traffic laws simultaneously.
CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, the Commandant of Delta State Police Command, reiterated the force’s dedication to intelligence-driven policing. He stressed that such operations are essential to dismantling criminal networks and preventing them from operating with impunity. Oyeniyi urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with police by providing credible and timely information. He assured the public that the command will continue to deny criminal elements safe havens in the state.
The operation reflects a broader strategy to enhance security through proactive and targeted interventions. By focusing on intelligence gathered from trusted sources, the police aim to preempt crimes before they occur. The arrest of such a large number of suspects in a single operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between intelligence units and field operatives. It also sends a strong message to would-be offenders that criminal activities will not be tolerated in Delta State.
As the police continue to roll out similar operations across the state, residents are encouraged to support these efforts through community policing and reporting suspicious activities. The success of this raid is expected to boost public confidence in the security agencies and contribute to a safer environment for all. This crackdown is likely to be followed by more sustained operations to ensure long-term peace and stability in Asaba and other parts of Delta State.
