The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara Command, has arrested a 40-year-old man, AbdulRauf Ambali, on charges of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse with his 14-year-old daughter. The arrest followed a thorough investigation initiated after the girl went missing for three weeks, prompting her father to report the incident to authorities. The case, which began with a public tip-off in Alapa, Asa Local Government Area, was transferred to the NSCDC Gender Unit for deeper probe. Commandant Abbas Nda-Muhammed confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Ilorin on Thursday.
The victim, who had been living with her grandmother since childhood, was taken into her father’s custody in December 2025 under the guise of parental care. However, shortly after moving in, she allegedly began suffering repeated sexual abuse and intimidation from her father. According to the investigation, the girl fled her father’s home after enduring months of abuse, including physical beatings and threats whenever she resisted his advances. She had no contact with anyone during her three-week disappearance.
During interrogation, the minor revealed that she became pregnant in May as a result of the abuse. Her father reportedly took her to a private clinic where the pregnancy was terminated. She also disclosed that she was repeatedly warned not to speak about the abuse and was later advised to use family planning methods to prevent future pregnancies. The suspect, during questioning, admitted to engaging in unlawful sexual relations with his daughter.
Commandant Nda-Muhammed described the act as a heinous betrayal of parental duty and a severe violation of a child’s rights and dignity. He emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or criminal activities to security agencies. The case, which began with a report filed at the Alapa Divisional Office on June 16, is now being handled by the Gender Unit with full legal and procedural rigor.
This arrest underscores the increasing role of security agencies in addressing gender-based violence and child abuse in Nigeria. The NSCDC’s swift response highlights its dedication to safeguarding children and ensuring justice for victims. Authorities are expected to hand over the suspect to the appropriate legal body for further proceedings, as the case draws attention to the urgent need for stronger child protection mechanisms across the country.
