A 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, has been arrested by the Gombe State Police Command for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, attempting to strangle her, and stealing ₦100,000 in Gombe. The incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. when the suspect, a resident of Riyal Quarters, unlawfully entered the victim’s residence by scaling the fence and breaking into her room. The victim, a businesswoman, sustained serious injuries during the assault and was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. She was later discharged after receiving necessary care.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters. DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the details in a statement. He said police operatives responded immediately to the scene after receiving the report. The victim’s account revealed that the suspect had previously asked her for money, which she refused, possibly triggering the violent attack.
During the investigation, police recovered an iron hammer believed to be stained with blood and a USB cable, both suspected to have been used during the assault. The items are now part of the evidence being examined as part of the ongoing probe. The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.
Abdullahi emphasized the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property in the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station without delay. The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and personal security in urban areas, especially in neighborhoods like Riyal Quarters.
The case highlights the dangers faced by individuals in intimate relationships, particularly when financial disputes escalate into physical violence. Authorities are working to ensure justice for the victim and to deter similar crimes. As investigations continue, the police are expected to provide further updates on the suspect’s charges and the outcome of the case. This arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of community reporting and swift police response in preventing and solving violent crimes.
