The former House of Representatives member for Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency pointed out that Senator Adeola’s victory was not just symbolic but also strategically significant. He referenced the fact that Adeola secured 304,055 votes out of 305,287 accredited voters, while his opponent, Abayomi Hunye, received zero votes. This result, Oladele said, underscores Adeola’s widespread acceptance across the state, including in Hunye’s own ward of Tube, where Adeola also won.
Oladele criticized Hunye for entering the race without building a solid political structure or cultivating grassroots support. He described Hunye’s participation as ill-advised, noting that a candidate who cannot win in his own ward lacks the statewide appeal necessary for a governorship bid. “Politics begins from one’s immediate constituency,” Oladele stated, adding that failing to gain support at the grassroots level makes it nearly impossible to win a statewide election.
The APC leader reiterated that the party’s consensus candidate, Senator Adeola, was adopted by the party before the primary exercise. Despite this, Hunye, former General Manager of the Ogun State Waste Management Agency (OGWAMA), still applied for the governorship nomination. Oladele’s comments come as the APC prepares for the 2027 governorship election, with party leaders now focused on uniting members and strengthening campaign efforts. The party’s ability to maintain cohesion will be key to its success in the upcoming polls.
