Osun 2026: Accord Reacts to Assassination Attempt on Chairman, Declares Enough is Enough

Accord has strongly condemned the assassination attempt on its Osogbo Local Government Area Chairman, Asimiyu Ajibola, describing the attack as politically motivated and a clear act of intimidation ahead of the 12th August 2026 Osun State governorship election. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, 3rd June 2026, in the MDS area of Osogbo, when two gunmen opened fire on a Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and his associates. The Chairman sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osun State, where medical personnel are currently battling to save his life.

The party has called for a thorough and high-powered investigation by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to identify and prosecute those behind the attack. Accord expressed gratitude to God for preserving Ajibola’s life and prayed for his swift recovery. The party also condemned the growing trend of political violence in the state, labeling the attack as outrageous, barbaric, despicable, and wicked.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, Accord highlighted that its members have repeatedly been targeted by political thugs linked to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). The statement noted that APC operatives have attacked Accord’s Imole Campaign offices, public properties, and party billboards in an effort to harass, intimidate, and suppress the party’s activities. Despite prior warnings to security agencies about these plots, the attacks have continued to occur under their watch, with no arrests or prosecutions.

Accord emphasized that enough is enough and reiterated its belief that the ballot is stronger than the gun. The party reaffirmed its commitment to issue-based politics and peaceful campaigns, rejecting political bitterness and violence. It stressed that it will not be cowed or intimidated by anti-democratic forces seeking to undermine democracy in Osun State.

The party also reminded the public that Osun State remains an Accord stronghold, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, whose administration has delivered visible dividends of democracy and development. Accord believes the governor deserves a second term and that the people of Osun are united in support of his vision. The party remains confident that together, Osun State will achieve a new level of prosperity and progress in the coming years.
