Yobe State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in separate operations targeting drug trafficking, substance abuse, and youth hooliganism across the state, as part of intensified efforts to restore law and order. The arrests were made in two distinct operations—one in Pompomari Kan Tudu and the other in Ngalda Market, Fika—on May 29, 2026. The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the developments in a statement issued on Saturday and made available to journalists in Damaturu.
In the first operation, police operatives from B Division conducted a raid at Pompomari Kan Tudu around 5:40 pm. They apprehended two suspected drug dealers, Jibrin Mohammed, 30, and Kasim Kyari, 22, both residents of the area. The suspects were found in possession of 26 sachets of Tramadol, 23 sachets of Diazepam, two wraps of Arizona Cannabis, 34 wraps of local cannabis, four stones of crystal methamphetamine, an 11-inch dagger, a pair of scissors, and N91,950 in cash. All recovered items and suspects are currently under investigation ahead of prosecution.
Meanwhile, in Fika, the Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call about a group of youths invading Ngalda Market. The youths were reportedly engaging in intimidation, public disturbance, and robbery. Patrol teams arrived on the scene and arrested seven suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had targeted teenage girls without provocation, causing widespread panic among traders and residents. Some goods were looted and vandalized using sticks and cutlasses. The police are continuing their investigation to identify the masterminds behind the incident and apprehend any other fleeing accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, emphasized the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward youth hooliganism, drug trafficking, substance abuse, and all forms of criminal activity. He urged officers to remain dedicated, professional, and steadfast in their duty to uphold peace and public safety across Yobe State. The operations reflect the police’s commitment to tackling rising crime rates and ensuring a secure environment for citizens.
These arrests come amid growing concerns over drug abuse and youth-related violence in the region. The police’s proactive approach signals a broader strategy to curb criminal activities and restore public confidence. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to take further action against those involved in organized crime and anti-social behavior. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help maintain security.
