Prince Kennedy Ahanotu has been unveiled as the presidential candidate of the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party, marking a significant development in the party’s internal dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made during the faction’s presidential, governorship, and House of Representatives primaries held in Abuja on Saturday. Ayo Olorunfemi, Deputy National Chairman of the party and representative of National Chairman Julius Abure, formally declared Ahanotu as the party’s standard-bearer for the upcoming election.
Ahanotu, who currently serves as the National Youth Leader of the Labour Party, accepted the nomination with a strong sense of duty and commitment to Nigeria’s future. Speaking at the event, he emphasized the importance of unity, reconciliation, and collective responsibility within the party. “With a full sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment to our nation, I proudly accept the nomination of our great party, the Labour Party, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election,” he stated.
He acknowledged the weight of the trust placed in him and pledged to work closely with all party leaders, candidates, and stakeholders across Nigeria. Ahanotu stressed the need to strengthen party structures, deepen internal democracy, and resolve existing differences to reposition the Labour Party for national relevance. He called on all members to embrace unity, noting that the party’s strength lies not in division but in shared purpose and vision.
In a gesture of political inclusiveness, Ahanotu extended an olive branch to Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, who has been a prominent figure in the Labour Party’s leadership. He urged the governor to be magnanimous in victory and expressed his intention to reach out for reconciliation. “I believe that Abia State Governor, His Excellency Dr Alex Otti, should be magnanimous in victory. I will reach out to him as the presidential candidate and find a way for us to reconcile the party,” Ahanotu said.
He further emphasized that the Labour Party is a national platform, not confined to Abia State. “The party is not meant only for Abia. It is a platform with a political structure across the country. Making it look like an Abia project is not enough,” he added. Ahanotu expressed confidence in Governor Otti’s sound judgment, stating he believes the governor will reason with him on the need for unity and collaboration.
Ahanotu also invited critical stakeholders and party members to join in rebuilding the party’s foundation. His message underscored a vision of national cohesion and political renewal. As the Labour Party prepares for the 2027 elections, Ahanotu’s emergence as the presidential candidate signals a new chapter in its quest to consolidate support and present a united front in Nigeria’s political landscape.
