Kwankwaso: Tinubus Northern Projects to Secure 2027 Re-Election

In addition to infrastructure, Kwankwaso pointed to ecological and agricultural interventions. The federal government has approved the Jakara–Gogau–Zungeru project, a N47 billion urban drainage and sewage system in Kano metropolis to manage floods and improve sanitation. Multi-billion-naira investments have also been made in 16 dams in Kano State, including the Challawa Gorge and Tiga dams, as well as the broader Kano River irrigation project.

On healthcare, upgrades to federal teaching hospitals and the revitalisation of primary health centres under the IMPACT programme are underway. Kwankwaso also referenced the Energising Commercialisation Nigeria (ECoN) initiative, launched in Kano by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, which aims to convert research into commercially viable products and create jobs in the North-West. He added that preparatory work for the North-West Development Commission, including its permanent headquarters in Kano, is ongoing.

Kwankwaso stressed that these projects are not just plans on paper but are visibly progressing, reflecting President Tinubu’s genuine commitment to the region. He confidently stated that the president would “sleep with his two eyes closed” because, in his view, the 2027 re-election is assured, with the North, especially Kano, expected to deliver strong support. This surge in development is likely to reshape regional dynamics and influence voter sentiment in the coming years.
