Police Arrest Father and Son Over Theft, Recover Four Firearms in Ogun State

Ogun State Police Command has arrested a father and son for stealing a mobile phone valued at N180,000 from a residential apartment in Imeko/Afon Local Government Area, as part of intensified operations against armed robbery and illegal firearms in the state. The suspects, identified as Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son Waliu Adegbola, were apprehended following a complaint received on Friday. According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the son was the one who stole the phone, and police operatives swiftly tracked him down and recovered the stolen device.

During the investigation, officers conducted a search of the suspects’ residence and recovered a locally made pistol and a dane gun. The police also arrested a 25-year-old man, Inioluwa Adesanya, in connection with the theft of a dane gun from a resident in Ode Remo. Adesanya was apprehended during a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout, where officers also found a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge abandoned at the scene. The firearm was immediately secured and deposited in the division’s armoury for safekeeping, with investigations ongoing to trace its origin and ownership.

The Ode Remo Division of the command revealed that Adesanya had gained access to the victim’s home under the pretence of being a carpenter’s assistant hired for renovation work. He admitted to stealing the dane gun during interrogation and confessed to being a member of the Aye confraternity. He also stated that the weapon had been modified for concealment. The recovered dane gun has been secured as evidence, and Adesanya remains in custody pending transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further discreet investigation and prosecution.

In total, the command recorded the arrest of five suspects, including the father and son, and recovered four firearms — one locally made pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, and two dane guns — along with one live cartridge and the stolen Tecno Android phone. All cases have been handed over to SCID for prosecution. The police command reiterated its commitment to sustained operations against violent crime, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms across Ogun State. The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines. These actions reflect ongoing efforts to enhance security and restore public confidence in the region.
