Tochukwu Nnadi has celebrated Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup semi-final, expressing confidence as the Super Eagles prepare for the final against Jamaica on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at The Valley in London. The Marseille midfielder started his first match for the national team in the tournament and played a key role in the midfield, helping Eric Chelle’s side secure a dominant win. Femi Azeez, making his debut, scored twice—once in each half—to propel Nigeria into their second consecutive Unity Cup final.
Nnadi, 22, praised the team’s performance despite remaining humble about his own contribution. “It was a great game. I don’t know if I had a fantastic performance, but I think the team did quite good. We won 2-0, so we are happy and we’re waiting for the next game,” he told the Super Eagles’ media team. The young midfielder highlighted the challenges of building chemistry in a short time, noting that the squad had only three training sessions before the tournament began.
Despite the limited preparation, Nnadi said the players adapted quickly. “I think we had three training sessions. It’s difficult, but we try to understand each other as quick as we can because I think in high-level football it doesn’t matter where the guys are coming from, but we all just have to be a team and work together,” he explained. He added that by the third training day, the players had developed a strong connection, which showed in their cohesive performance during the match.
Nigeria’s path to the final was secured after Jamaica defeated India 2-0 in the other semi-final. The Super Eagles are now focused on retaining the Unity Cup, a tournament they won in the previous edition. Nnadi emphasized the team’s determination to win every competition they enter. “We are here to win the Unity Cup. I wouldn’t say nothing about the Poland and Portugal game. First we get the job done here and then we’ll see what happen in Poland and in Portugal,” he stated.
He also reflected on Nigeria’s recent AFCON campaign, where they reached the final but fell short. “Last AFCON we had a great competition but in the end we didn’t win, so this time we have to fight and see if we can win the AFCON and hopefully win more trophies for the Nigerian national team,” Nnadi said. His comments underline the growing ambition within the squad to bring home major silverware.
As Nigeria prepares for the final against Jamaica, the focus remains on delivering a strong performance and continuing their winning momentum. The Unity Cup final will be a crucial test of their form and cohesion ahead of future international challenges.
