The Accord Party in Ogun State has officially declared Okewole Olaniyi as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 governorship election, following a consensus-based primary election held on Tuesday at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta. The announcement was made by Oke Rotimi Michael, chairman of the party and head of the electoral committee, during the 2026 primary election for both the governorship and State House of Assembly positions. The party adopted a consensus approach to candidate selection, emphasizing unity and collective decision-making over competitive voting.
Michael, speaking at the event, confirmed the winners for the State Assembly constituencies, starting from the bottom and moving upward. Mr. Salami Monsuru was declared the winner for Ado-Odo/Ota 2 State Constituency, Mr. Jinadu Oyeniyi for Sagamu 1 State Constituency, and Mrs. Abulraheem Lateefat for Abeokuta North State Constituency. All results were signed and authenticated by the electoral committee, which also included Mr. Ajetunmobi Lateef as secretary, Mrs. Feyisetan Babatunde, Mrs. Rasheedat Shittu, and Mr. Caleb Adetoro as members.
In his address, Michael urged the elected candidates to remain focused and committed to delivering tangible results for Ogun State residents. He stressed that the party’s efforts are aimed at building a better future for the state, not personal gain. “We have a lot of things to do to make our state great,” he said. “This is just the beginning, and we are taking the first step. We must make the people feel the impact of the party.”
Michael reiterated that the Accord Party belongs to all Nigerians and not just a select group of politicians. He emphasized the party’s mission to bring about much-needed development and progress in Ogun State. “I assure you that Accord is here to bring the much-needed development,” he declared. “Let’s bear it in mind and go out to tell people that this time around, it’s not selfishness as usual. Let’s go out and preach to people, tell them we want development and not retrogression.”
Okewole Olaniyi, who was represented at the event by Waheed Azeez, Director-General of his campaign organisation, expressed gratitude to the party for the nomination. In his acceptance speech, Olaniyi stated that the Accord Party is committed to a total overhaul of the current political status quo in Ogun State. “We believe that what we are witnessing in the state is not the best,” he said. “The Accord Party is poised to change it strategically and bring about something positive.”
As the 2027 governorship election approaches, the Accord Party’s announcement marks a significant step in its political journey, setting the stage for a campaign focused on development, unity, and transformative leadership in Ogun State.
