Oyo State Police Command has killed three suspected kidnappers in a counter-insurgency operation in Otu, Itesiwaju Local Government Area, while rescuing a kidnapped victim, Mr. Mosudi Gbolagade, who was abducted in Okaka town. The incident occurred on Tuesday, according to Olayinka Ayanlade, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command. The operation, carried out in collaboration with local hunters, marks a significant security development in the region amid rising concerns over kidnapping and armed banditry.
The police confirmed that the three suspects were killed during the confrontation, which erupted after operatives tracked the whereabouts of the abducted victim. Mr. Gbolagade, a 50-year-old man, had been held captive in the Otu area following his abduction in Okaka. His rescue came after a coordinated effort between police officers and local hunters who assisted in locating the hideout.
Although the rescue mission was successful, it came at a cost. Mr. Gbolagade sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire and was immediately evacuated for urgent medical attention. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, and his condition is being monitored closely by medical professionals. In addition, one of the local hunters also suffered gunshot wounds during the operation and was rushed to the hospital for emergency care.
The police have praised the cooperation between security agencies and community members, emphasizing that such partnerships are crucial in combating criminal activities. Ayanlade reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb kidnapping and other forms of armed violence in Oyo State.
This incident follows a series of similar operations conducted across the state in recent weeks, as security agencies intensify their efforts to restore peace and stability. The killing of the three suspects and the rescue of Mr. Gbolagade highlight the risks faced by both security personnel and civilians in the fight against criminal elements. The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security outpost.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to release further details on the suspects and their possible links to other criminal networks. The rescue of Mr. Gbolagade serves as a reminder of the persistent threat of kidnapping in Nigeria, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. Moving forward, sustained collaboration between security forces and communities will be essential in preventing future abductions and ensuring swift justice for victims.
