President Bola Tinubu has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election held in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, securing an overwhelming mandate from party members. The primary, conducted on Saturday, saw Tinubu win all 10 wards of the local government, receiving 15,670 votes. His sole rival, Dr. Stanley Osifo, received zero votes, marking a decisive outcome in the party’s internal contest.
The results were announced by Dr. Surajo Musa, the presiding officer for the primary election in the LGA. He confirmed that the direct primaries were carried out transparently and in accordance with party guidelines. The process was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other key party stakeholders, ensuring credibility and accountability.
The council chairman, who also serves as a member of the primary election committee, praised the high turnout of APC members during the exercise. He described the event as a strong demonstration of public confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership. “This election is a clear testimony that our people have confidence in President Tinubu and are ready to vote for him in the coming secondary education,” he stated, though the reference to “secondary education” appears to be a misstatement and likely intended to mean the upcoming general election.
The chairman further emphasized the commitment of Jigawa State leaders to support Tinubu’s re-election bid. He reaffirmed Governor Umar Namadi’s pledge to deliver approximately two million votes to Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This promise underscores the strategic importance of Jigawa State in the APC’s national campaign plans.
The primary election in Ringim LGA was part of a broader series of APC primaries being held across Nigeria to select candidates for the 2027 general elections. Tinubu’s victory in this key local government area strengthens his position within the party and signals strong grassroots backing in the North-West region. The APC’s internal processes are being closely watched as they shape the party’s national strategy and candidate selection.
With the primary results now official, attention turns to the next phase of the party’s electoral roadmap. Tinubu’s overwhelming win in Ringim sets a precedent for future primaries and reinforces his status as the APC’s leading presidential candidate. As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, this victory marks a significant step in consolidating support for the incumbent president’s bid for re-election.
