NDLEA Arrests Two Suspected Drug Traffickers Near Oredo LG Secretariat in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested four suspected drug traffickers in a series of coordinated raids across Benin City and other parts of the state, marking a significant step in the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse. The arrests, made on May 15 and 16, 2026, followed credible intelligence and resulted in the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, tramadol, and other controlled drugs. State Commander Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju disclosed the details during a press briefing on Monday, May 18, 2026, highlighting the command’s recent successes in disrupting drug networks within Edo State.

Two female suspects, Eniye Osague, 25, and Osaretin Erabor, 43, were apprehended at the back of the Oredo Local Government Area Secretariat in Benin City. Osague was found in possession of 272 grams of Scottish loud, while Erabor had 914 grams of cannabis sativa. In a separate operation at Hausa Quarters, Oluku, Benin City, another female suspect, Vivian Chukwuma, 38, and a male suspect, Osigwe Omogie, 44, were arrested. They were found with a total of 315 grams of cannabis loud, 22 grams of Colorado, 38 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of Tramadol 100mg, 113 grams of cannabis sativa, 8 grams of loud, and 5 grams of tramadol.

The NDLEA also conducted raids in Uduwuga, Uhumwonde Local Government Area, and other locations, leading to the arrest of three additional female suspects and one male drug trafficker. These operations were part of a sustained offensive aimed at dismantling drug distribution networks and reducing the availability of narcotics in the state. Dr. Ofoyeju emphasized that the intelligence-driven operations were crucial in targeting high-risk areas and intercepting drug shipments before they reached the streets.

In another major development, the NDLEA destroyed two cannabis plantations in Ago Forest, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, following a raid on May 16, 2026. The farms, covering a combined area of 0.555367 hectares (0.362021 hectares and 0.229346 hectares), were estimated to yield 1,388.4175 kilograms of cannabis. Although no arrests were made at the scene due to the absence of the cultivators, the destruction of these farms represents a major blow to illegal drug production in the region.

The Edo State NDLEA’s recent actions underscore its commitment to enforcing drug laws and protecting public health. With continued intelligence gathering and operational coordination, the agency aims to further weaken drug trafficking networks and prevent the proliferation of narcotics across the state. These efforts are expected to contribute to a safer and healthier environment for residents of Edo State.
