Fulham manager Marco Silva has expressed frustration over the lack of impact from his substitutes following a lacklustre second half in the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze among those brought on but failing to influence the game. The match, played at Craven Cottage, saw Fulham struggle to maintain momentum after the break despite making several attacking changes. Silva, who has been under pressure to improve results, admitted the team’s performance in the second half was one of the worst this season. He highlighted the need for more effectiveness from players coming off the bench, especially in crucial moments.
Chukwueze, who joined Fulham on loan from AC Milan, started the game on the bench and was introduced late in the second half to replace former Manchester City midfielder Oscar Bobb. The Nigeria international, known for his pace and creativity, was expected to inject energy and create chances. However, his impact was minimal, as he failed to register a shot on target or complete a single successful dribble during his time on the pitch. His performance mirrored that of other substitutes, including Harry Wilson, Raul Jiménez, and Josh King, who also struggled to make a difference.
Silva described the second-half display as “probably one of the worst” from his side this season, adding that he found it difficult to pinpoint the exact reason for the team’s collapse. He emphasized that the changes were made with the intention of turning the game around, but none of the attacking replacements managed to alter the course of play. “Apart from Kevin at halftime, we finished the game with Chukwueze, Harry Wilson, Raul, Josh King as well but the reality is the impact was not there at all,” Silva lamented. He acknowledged that such situations can occur in football, but stressed the importance of being more effective when making substitutions.
The draw leaves Fulham with 17 points from 14 Premier League matches, placing them in the lower half of the table. The team’s inability to convert pressure into goals remains a concern, especially with key players like Chukwueze failing to deliver when called upon. Silva will now look to address these issues in training, as the team prepares for upcoming fixtures that could determine their season’s trajectory. The performance against Wolves may serve as a wake-up call for both the manager and the squad as they aim to improve consistency and results in the coming weeks.
