Derby County have released their retained list for the 2026-2027 season, confirming the futures of five players of Nigerian descent, including Super Eagles hopeful David Ozoh, who has returned to parent club Crystal Palace after his loan spell ended. The Championship side made the announcement shortly after the conclusion of the 2025-2026 campaign, with Ozoh’s departure confirmed both by the club and through his social media activity. The 21-year-old midfielder, born in Valencia, Spain, made 35 appearances across all competitions during his time at Pride Park, scoring two goals and contributing to the team’s efforts in the second tier of English football.
Ozoh, who previously represented England at the U18 level, has been a consistent presence in Crystal Palace’s youth and reserve teams, earning thirteen first-team appearances for the Eagles. His contract with the London-based club remains active until June 30, 2026, leaving room for future opportunities at Selhurst Park. His return to Palace marks the end of a productive loan stint with Derby, where he gained valuable experience in competitive matches and demonstrated his potential as a rising talent in English football.
Alongside Ozoh, four other Nigerian-born players have been retained by Derby County for pre-season training. These include Charles Agbawodikiezu, Raymond Offor, Justin Oguntolu, and Adisa Osayande, all of whom are part of the club’s U21 setup. Agbawodikiezu, who has yet to make his first-team debut, was named in the matchday squad for four Championship games during the 2024-2025 season, showcasing his growing influence within the squad. Offor, a Dublin-born centre-back, joined the Rams from League of Ireland Premier Division side Shelbourne in February 2026, bringing fresh defensive experience to the youth ranks.
Justin Oguntolu stood out during the Premier League Cup, scoring five goals and providing two assists in just six appearances, highlighting his attacking prowess. Meanwhile, U21s captain Adisa Osayande spent part of the season on youth loan at Northern Premier League West side Stafford Rangers, gaining crucial match fitness and development time. The retention of these young talents signals Derby County’s commitment to nurturing homegrown and international prospects within their academy structure.
As the club prepares for the upcoming season, the futures of these Nigerian players remain under close observation, particularly Ozoh, whose performances could earn him a place in Nigeria’s senior national team. The continued development of these players may also strengthen Derby’s long-term ambitions in the Championship and beyond.
