The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major operational success following a targeted raid in Nguru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, where a terrorist group was dismantled and a significant cache of weapons and explosives recovered. The operation, conducted on intelligence gathered from a confessional statement by Ebube Uchenna Maduakolam—also known as Ebube Virus, a suspected IPOB-linked terrorist—led to the seizure of two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), one AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, 3,115 rounds of ammunition, surveillance drones, and Biafra currency. Three suspects were apprehended during the raid and are currently in lawful custody, providing crucial details about the group’s logistics, personnel, and planned activities.
The operation was carried out by the Imo State Police Command as part of the nationwide campaign to suppress violent extremism and dismantle organized criminal networks. According to the Force’s Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid Okon, the intelligence-driven mission was executed with precision and professionalism, reflecting the Force’s commitment to national security. The recovered weapons and materials are believed to have been stockpiled for use in attacks aimed at destabilizing the South-East region.
The Inspector-General of Police commended the operatives for their bravery and tactical execution, emphasizing that the seizure of such a substantial arsenal significantly weakens the operational capacity of extremist elements in the area. He described the operation as a decisive blow against terrorism and a demonstration of the Force’s ability to act swiftly on credible intelligence. The recovered surveillance drones, in particular, highlight the sophisticated methods employed by the group, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and intelligence collaboration.
The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the rule of law and protect citizens across the country. The dismantling of this terrorist cell sends a clear message that no criminal network, regardless of its affiliation or ideology, will be allowed to threaten public safety. Authorities are now reviewing the information provided by the detained suspects to identify additional members and disrupt any further plans. This operation reinforces the government’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the South-East, where security challenges have persisted in recent years. The Force’s actions continue to demonstrate its capability to respond to emerging threats with speed and effectiveness.
