Governor Alex Chioma Otti of Abia State has officially received his Labour Party nomination forms free of charge from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), marking a significant step in his political journey ahead of the 2027 general elections. The presentation ceremony took place on Friday at the Abia State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, where the NWC delegation, led by National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman, formally handed over the forms to the governor. This gesture underscores the party’s recognition of Otti’s leadership and commitment to its core principles of social justice and equal opportunities.
Senator Usman, speaking on behalf of the NWC, praised Governor Otti for being a “poster boy” of the Labour Party, highlighting his consistent efforts in implementing the party’s ideals during his tenure in Abia State. She emphasized that the free nomination forms were a token of appreciation for his outstanding performance and a motivation for him to continue delivering quality governance. The NWC’s decision reflects a strategic move to consolidate support within the party and strengthen its presence in key states like Abia.
In his remarks, the Labour Party’s National Secretary, Hon. Obioma Iheanacho, commended Governor Otti for his unwavering loyalty to the party, especially during turbulent times when internal challenges led many members to leave for other political platforms. He lauded the governor’s consistency in both governance and political conduct, noting that such dedication is rare and highly valuable. Iheanacho’s words reinforced the party’s confidence in Otti’s leadership and his ability to inspire others within the Labour Party fold.
Responding to the gesture, Governor Otti expressed deep gratitude to the NWC, stating that he would not take the honour lightly. He pledged to continue supporting the party and delivering on his promises to the people of Abia State. He also commended Senator Nenadi Usman for her leadership in resolving the protracted internal crisis that had previously weakened the party’s structure and public image. Otti expressed optimism that the Labour Party is now poised for success in the upcoming elections, noting that all legal challenges have been resolved and no active litigation remains against the party.
The delegation included key party figures such as National Organising Secretary Mrs. Oluchi Oparah, National Woman Leader Hilda Dokubo, and National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa. Also present were former National Secretary Senator Darlington Nwokocha, who also received his nomination forms free of charge, and Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, caucus leader of Abia State lawmakers in the House of Representatives. Members of the Abia State Executive Council were also in attendance, underscoring the event’s significance and the broad support for Governor Otti’s re-election bid.
This development signals a renewed sense of unity and purpose within the Labour Party as it prepares for the next electoral cycle. With key leaders like Governor Otti at the forefront, the party aims to expand its influence and secure greater electoral success across Nigeria.
