Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug dealers in Kolere Village, Fune Local Government Area, following a coordinated anti-drug operation in Borno Kichi Market, Potiskum. The arrest, carried out on Wednesday at around 3:00 PM, targeted a known hideout used by criminal gangs involved in drug trafficking and harbouring illegal elements. Police operatives from the Potiskum Area Command conducted the raid, resulting in the recovery of various illicit substances and the apprehension of the suspects. The operation underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug abuse and related crimes in the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Thursday and made available to DAILY POST in Damaturu. He stated that the suspects were apprehended during the surprise operation, which targeted a hotspot for drug-related activities. According to SP Abdulkarim, the seized items include Tramadol capsules, assorted hard drug tablets, Indian hemp, and rubber solution commonly referred to as “Sholi.” These substances are widely abused in the region and pose serious health and security risks.
The four suspects identified are Hafizu Adamu, 25, Babale Idi, 25, Shuaibu Mohammed, 35, and Shuaibu Musa, 22. All are residents of Kolere Village in Fune Local Government Area. Their arrest highlights the police’s commitment to rooting out drug networks in rural communities where such activities often go unchecked. The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement in drug trafficking.
SP Abdulkarim emphasized that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The operation in Borno Kichi Market is part of a broader strategy by the Yobe State Police Command to dismantle criminal networks and restore public confidence in the security apparatus. Authorities continue to intensify patrols and surveillance in high-risk areas across the state.
This arrest comes amid increasing concerns over the spread of drug abuse in northern Nigeria, particularly among youth. The recovery of substances like Tramadol and Indian hemp reflects the growing demand for illicit drugs in the region. Law enforcement agencies are working closely with community leaders and health officials to address the root causes of drug use. The police’s proactive approach in Kolere Village sends a strong message to criminal elements that no area is beyond reach.
As investigations proceed, the Yobe State Police Command remains focused on ensuring justice for victims and deterring future criminal activities. The success of this operation may encourage similar raids in other vulnerable communities. The fight against drug trafficking in Yobe State continues, with authorities determined to create a safer environment for residents.
