The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer during a surprise raid at the Audu Bako Secretariat as part of its ongoing “Operation Sharar Mafaka.” The arrest took place following credible intelligence that drug-related activities were being conducted within the government facility. NDLEA operatives swiftly moved in to dismantle illegal drug spots operating in the area, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in sensitive locations.
On spotting the law enforcement officers, the suspect, identified as a car washer, panicked and climbed to the second floor of a building in an attempt to escape. However, he was quickly apprehended by the team, who acted with precision and speed. A quantity of Cannabis sativa was recovered from him during the arrest. The suspect was immediately taken to the NDLEA Kano command office for further investigation and possible prosecution.
According to the agency’s statement, the suspect confessed to being involved in the illicit drug trade for approximately two years. He admitted to using the secretariat as a cover for his illegal activities, taking advantage of the perceived security and accessibility of government premises. NDLEA officials emphasized that their rapid response prevented the suspect from destroying evidence or fleeing the scene.
Commander CN D.Y. Lawal of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command issued a stern warning to anyone attempting to exploit government buildings for criminal purposes. “This is a warning to all those that think government establishments can be used as a hideout for their illicit activities,” he said. He stressed that no location is off-limits in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
Operation Sharar Mafaka remains active across Kano State, targeting drug networks and disrupting their operations. The NDLEA continues to rely on intelligence and community cooperation to identify and dismantle criminal elements involved in drug distribution. The agency is committed to ensuring that public institutions are not compromised by illegal activities.
This latest arrest underscores the growing intensity of NDLEA’s efforts in Kano, where drug-related crimes have been a persistent challenge. The agency’s focus on high-risk areas, including government offices, reflects a broader strategy to eliminate safe havens for drug dealers. As the operation progresses, NDLEA aims to strengthen public safety and restore confidence in the integrity of public spaces.
The arrest serves as a clear message that drug offenders will be held accountable, regardless of where they operate. The NDLEA’s actions are expected to deter others from engaging in similar criminal activities within government premises.
