Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has congratulated Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat on his adoption as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, marking a significant development in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. In a statement released on Thursday, Ambode praised Hamzat’s emergence as a result of his loyalty, consistency, and long-standing dedication to the growth and unity of the APC. He emphasized that Hamzat’s extensive consultations with key party stakeholders demonstrated a clear commitment to strengthening internal cohesion and advancing the collective interests of Lagos State.
Ambode highlighted that Hamzat’s experience in governance and public administration has earned him the trust and confidence of party leaders and members. He noted that the consensus adoption reflects the maturity of the APC in Lagos State and its ability to resolve internal matters through dialogue and mutual respect. The former governor expressed optimism that Hamzat’s leadership would continue the legacy of progress and development in the state, building on the foundation laid during his own tenure.
In addition to congratulating Hamzat, Ambode reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. He stated, “As I congratulate Dr Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr. President.” Ambode argued that President Tinubu’s ongoing policies are laying the groundwork for long-term national development and economic progress.
The former governor urged APC members in Lagos State to intensify mobilization efforts ahead of the elections. He set an ambitious target of at least three million votes for President Tinubu in Lagos, calling on party loyalists to ensure strong performances for APC candidates in the National Assembly and other elective positions. Ambode also called for greater coordination among APC structures across the South-West region to strengthen the party’s electoral prospects in the zone.
He expressed confidence that the continued leadership of President Tinubu would consolidate national development and bring lasting prosperity to the country. Ambode remained optimistic about the future of Lagos State and Nigeria, insisting that stronger days lie ahead for both the ruling party and the nation. His message underscores the APC’s strategic focus on unity, mobilization, and sustained political engagement as key to achieving electoral success in 2027.
