The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and recovered N8 million paid as ransom by her family in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, marking a significant victory in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and terrorism in the region. The rescue operation, carried out on Saturday, 25 April 2026, was conducted by troops deployed under Sector 9 Shendam of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace. The military confirmed the successful outcome through a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer for the task force.
The abduction occurred on 19 April 2026, when a female victim was taken from Bauna area in Shendam Local Government Area. Intelligence gathered during the investigation, including confessions from an arrested suspect, led military operatives to the victim’s location in Padam Forest, Qua’an Pan LGA. Troops swiftly moved in, rescued the woman, and recovered the ransom money that had been paid to the kidnappers. The operation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated military efforts and the importance of intelligence in countering criminal networks.
Following the rescue, the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Shendam for a comprehensive medical check-up to ensure her physical and mental well-being. After medical clearance, she was safely reunited with her family. The N8 million ransom, which had been handed over to the kidnappers, was also returned to the family, bringing a sense of justice and relief to the community. The military emphasized that the recovery of the funds demonstrates their commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring accountability.
In the aftermath, troops are conducting exploitation operations in both Qua’an Pan and Shendam LGAs to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate. These efforts aim to dismantle the network entirely and prevent future abductions. The Joint Task Force also expressed appreciation to the public for their continued support and urged citizens to provide timely and reliable information to aid security operations. Such cooperation, they noted, is crucial in maintaining peace and security across the Operation Enduring Peace area.
The successful rescue and recovery of the ransom underscore the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the North Central region. As the military continues to target criminal hideouts and strengthen intelligence networks, communities are being reassured of their safety. This operation serves as a reminder that security forces remain vigilant and determined to protect lives and property across Nigeria.
