Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2027, representing the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a public gathering in Daura on Thursday, following a visit to Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda on Wednesday to seek his endorsement and support.
In his address to party members and supporters, Yusuf expressed his commitment to public service, stating, “I am here to seek your support, and I assure you that if elected, I will do my best and will never disappoint you, God willing. I thank all of you for your time, dedication and support.” His declaration marks a significant entry into Nigerian politics by a prominent member of the Buhari family, drawing attention from political observers and party stakeholders across the country.
The event was attended by traditional leaders, party officials, and family members, including former lawmaker Fatuhu Muhammad. Alhaji Musa Haro, the Dan Madamin Daura, also spoke at the gathering, urging the people to rally behind Yusuf’s ambition. Haro emphasized that the campaign would be inclusive, saying, “We will go to the people in every town and village to seek their support. We will also reach out to other aspirants contesting the same seat to collaborate with them and seek their support.”
Haro acknowledged the current representative, Aminu Jamo, for his service, noting that “nobody can do 100 per cent” in politics, which suggests a respectful acknowledgment of the incumbent’s tenure while paving the way for new leadership. The Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua constituency has been represented by Aminu Jamo since 2019, and Yusuf’s entry into the race is expected to intensify political activity in the region.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, Yusuf Buhari’s candidacy is likely to attract both support and scrutiny, given his father’s national prominence and his own growing influence within the APC. His campaign will need to focus on grassroots mobilization, policy proposals, and building alliances within the party and among constituents. The political landscape in Katsina State remains dynamic, and Yusuf’s bid could reshape the dynamics of the upcoming elections in the region.
With the APC’s internal processes already in motion, Yusuf’s declaration signals a new chapter in his political journey. His campaign is expected to emphasize development, youth engagement, and transparency, as he seeks to win the trust of voters in one of Katsina State’s most influential constituencies. The coming months will be crucial as he builds momentum and prepares for what could be a competitive race.
