Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under Sector 2, have killed at least 24 terrorists in a fierce clash following a determined attack on Kukareta location in the early hours of Thursday. The operation, which began shortly after midnight and lasted until around 0300 hours, saw Nigerian military forces respond swiftly and effectively to neutralize the threat. The engagement, carried out in the northeastern region of Nigeria, underscores the ongoing military efforts to combat insurgency and restore security in the area.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of the Task Force, the terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the Kukareta location. However, vigilant troops executed a well-planned offensive-defensive action that successfully contained the attack. The military’s quick response forced the insurgents into a chaotic retreat, leaving behind significant casualties and military equipment.
During the intense firefight, Nigerian forces confirmed the neutralization of 24 terrorists. The battlefield exploitation that followed revealed a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. Among the recovered items were 18 AK-47 rifles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), 2 PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, 3 RPG tubes, 2 mortar tubes, 4 hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of belted 7.62mm ammunition for PKT systems. These weapons indicate the level of preparation and firepower the terrorists had brought to the attack.
The military also reported two personnel wounded in action, who have since been stabilized and are receiving medical care. Additionally, one reinforcing armoured tank sustained damage during the engagement, with all its tyres blown out. Despite these challenges, the troops maintained operational effectiveness and continued their mission.
Ongoing exploitation efforts are focused on recovering additional terrorist bodies and equipment along the withdrawal routes. These routes are marked by blood trails and scattered medical consumables, providing further evidence of the heavy losses suffered by the insurgents. The successful operation demonstrates the combat readiness, resilience, and fire superiority of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of movement and operational space.
The military remains committed to sustaining offensive pressure across the Joint Operations Area to consolidate recent gains. With continued vigilance and coordinated efforts, the Nigerian security forces aim to decisively defeat all terrorist elements and ensure lasting peace in the region. This latest engagement serves as a reminder of the persistent threat posed by insurgency and the unwavering resolve of the armed forces to protect civilians and restore stability.
