Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Friday formally presented Senator Aliyu Wadada to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections. The event marked a significant step in the party’s leadership transition process, with Sule leading the presentation to the President in a ceremonial gesture underscoring the unity and preparedness of the APC in Nasarawa State. The move follows Sule’s earlier public announcement of Wadada as his preferred successor, a decision reached after extensive consultations across the state and beyond.
The governor had made the announcement during a meeting with political appointees at the Nasarawa State Government House, emphasizing that the selection process had been ongoing for over a year. He highlighted that the consultations were broad-based and inclusive, involving stakeholders from all walks of life. These included foreign and prospective investors, youth groups, women’s organizations, traditional rulers, party officials, and members of his cabinet. The discussions also spanned the state’s three senatorial zones, ensuring representation from all regions and communities.
Sule stressed that the process was designed to identify a candidate who could unite the party and lead the state effectively into the future. He noted that Wadada’s experience as a senator and his deep roots in Nasarawa politics made him a suitable choice for the role. The governor also expressed confidence that Wadada would continue the development agenda initiated during his tenure, focusing on infrastructure, security, and economic growth.
The presentation to President Tinubu was seen as a formal endorsement of Wadada’s candidacy at the national level. It also signals the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and peaceful leadership transition. Political analysts view the move as a strategic effort to consolidate support within the party ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in a state that has been a key battleground in recent political contests.
Senator Wadada, who has served as a senator representing Nasarawa South, is widely respected for his legislative work and community engagement. His selection as the APC’s consensus candidate reflects the party’s desire for continuity and stability. The presentation at the Presidential Villa was attended by key party leaders and government officials, reinforcing the significance of the event.
As Nasarawa State prepares for the next electoral cycle, the APC’s decision to back Wadada is expected to influence party dynamics and voter sentiment. The move sets the stage for a focused campaign strategy, with the party likely to emphasize development achievements and policy continuity. The presentation to President Tinubu also strengthens the candidate’s national profile, positioning him as a credible and united front for the APC in the upcoming elections.
