A suspected kidnapper has been arrested and a victim rescued in Isua Akoko, Ondo State, following a swift police operation based on credible intelligence. The Ondo State Police Command announced the development on Tuesday, revealing that the victim, who had been abducted while on cattle rearing duties in Ipesi Akoko, was freed after a coordinated intervention by law enforcement officers. The operation, carried out in the early hours of the morning, resulted in the apprehension of a suspect with a visible head injury at Obasanjo Motor Park in Isua.

The victim and another individual had traveled to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing but did not return home, raising concerns among their families and local authorities. Police investigations revealed that the victim was kidnapped at night by three suspected abductors. In a desperate attempt to escape, he fought back and inflicted a head injury on one of the kidnappers. This act of resistance proved crucial in identifying the suspect later.

According to Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, police acted immediately after receiving detailed information from the victim. At approximately 6:09 a.m., operatives from the Isua division launched a targeted raid at Obasanjo Motor Park, where they apprehended a man with a noticeable head wound. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of the kidnapping gang. The victim later positively identified him, confirming the injury as a key match.

The rescued victim was promptly taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Meanwhile, the arrested suspect has been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit for further interrogation and possible prosecution. The police command emphasized that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state. They urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and accurate information to aid in crime prevention.

This incident underscores the increasing police efforts to restore security in rural areas of Ondo State, where cattle rearing activities often expose individuals to criminal threats. The successful rescue and arrest highlight the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and community cooperation. As the investigation continues, authorities remain committed to ensuring justice and enhancing public safety across the state.
