Bar. Firdausi Sunusi Umar, a candidate seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Ringim and Taura Federal Constituency, has officially withdrawn from the race and declared her full support for the consensus candidate, Yusha’u Muhammad. Her decision comes just hours before the scheduled primary election, marking a significant development in the party’s internal process. The withdrawal was announced during a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi at Government House, Dutse, where she reaffirmed her commitment to party unity and stability.
Firdausi is one of eleven aspirants who initially contested for the APC nomination. However, nine of them had already stepped down in favor of Yusha’u Muhammad, who emerged as the consensus candidate through internal consultations. Her withdrawal brings the total number of aspirants still in the race to just two, with her exit strengthening Muhammad’s position as the clear frontrunner. The move is seen as a strategic effort to avoid internal division and ensure a smooth transition ahead of the general elections.
In a formal letter addressed to the National Chairman of the APC and received by the state legal adviser, Bar. Baffa Alhassan, Firdausi stated that her decision was made in the best interest of the party’s unity, stability, and progress. She emphasized that the withdrawal followed extensive consultations with party elders and key stakeholders. The letter also cited Section 87(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 as the legal basis for her decision, underscoring the legitimacy of her step-down.
“I resolved and align myself with the consensus candidate of our great party, APC,” Firdausi stated. “I, therefore, wholeheartedly endorse Yusha’u Muhammad of our party for the Ringim and Taura Federal Constituency ticket.” Her endorsement adds weight to Muhammad’s candidacy, particularly given her status as a respected legal practitioner and active party member. The gesture is expected to influence other remaining aspirants and solidify party cohesion ahead of the primary.
The APC’s primary for the Ringim and Taura Federal Constituency is a critical step in Nigeria’s electoral calendar, and the party’s ability to present a united front will be crucial in the upcoming general elections. With Firdausi’s withdrawal, the party is now poised to move forward with a single, consolidated candidate, reducing the risk of a fractured campaign. Her decision reflects a growing trend within the APC to prioritize unity over individual ambition, especially in key constituencies.
As the party prepares for the primary, the endorsement of Firdausi Sunusi Umar sends a strong message of solidarity and commitment to collective success. Her support for Yusha’u Muhammad could influence voter perception and strengthen the candidate’s chances in the general election. The APC’s ability to maintain this unity will be closely watched as the country moves closer to the 2023 general elections.
