Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully rescued 92 kidnapped civilians during a counter-terrorism operation against suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents in Borno State. The rescue mission, carried out on Saturday, took place along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area, following intelligence reports of suspicious movements. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the development in a post shared on X, highlighting the swift response by Nigerian military forces.
The operation was launched after surveillance detected terrorists moving civilians and vehicles into remote bush paths near Echo 1, Dutse Kura. Acting on this intelligence, a Quick Reaction Force was immediately dispatched to the area. Additional troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade joined the pursuit, tracking the fleeing insurgents toward the Mangari-Dora region. The coordinated effort demonstrated the military’s improved surveillance and rapid response capabilities in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the Northeast.
During the engagement, Nigerian troops opened fire on the fleeing terrorists, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victims and the vehicles they were using. The insurgents scattered into the dense bush, escaping further into the forested terrain. Despite their retreat, the military managed to secure the hostages and recover the vehicles left behind. The rescued victims, believed to be civilians abducted during a previous attack, were later handed over to local authorities for medical and psychological support.
The 135 Special Forces Battalion, which led the operation, has been actively deployed in Borno State to combat the persistent threat of Boko Haram and ISWAP. Their presence in strategic locations like Echo 1 has contributed to increased security in the region. The successful rescue underscores the importance of intelligence-led operations and inter-unit coordination in countering terrorist activities.
This incident follows a series of similar operations by Operation HADIN KAI, which has been instrumental in rescuing hundreds of hostages in recent months. The military’s consistent efforts have led to a noticeable reduction in large-scale abductions, although sporadic attacks still occur. The rescued victims are now being processed and provided with necessary care by humanitarian agencies and government officials.
The rescue of 92 individuals marks a significant achievement in Nigeria’s ongoing war against terrorism. It reflects the determination of the armed forces to protect civilians and restore peace in the Northeast. As the military continues to strengthen its operations, communities in Borno and surrounding areas are seeing renewed hope for lasting security.
