Taraba Government Clarifies Automatic Ticket Policy for Political Aspirants in 2027

The Taraba State Government has firmly denied reports that Governor Agbu Kefas has approved automatic tickets for political aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling the claims “false, baseless, and misleading.” In a statement issued on Friday in Jalingo, the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Sabo Kente, clarified that no such arrangement exists within the administration. The government emphasized that Governor Kefas has not made any promise or commitment to any individual or political group regarding automatic ticket allocation. This official denial comes amid growing speculation and tension among political aspirants and party members in the state.

The statement stressed that Governor Kefas remains committed to democratic principles, fairness, and transparency in the selection of candidates for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State. It reaffirmed that all aspirants will be given equal opportunity to contest through credible and transparent party primaries. “At no time has His Excellency made any promise of automatic tickets to any individual or group,” the statement read, underscoring the administration’s dedication to a level playing field for all candidates. The clarification also aligns with the position of the APC leadership in the state, particularly the Taraba APC Chairman, Abubakar Bawa.

Bawa reiterated that the party does not operate a system of automatic tickets and that candidates for elective offices will emerge strictly through primaries conducted in accordance with party guidelines. The government expressed concern that the unverified reports have created unnecessary tension among aspirants, party members, and supporters across Taraba State. It warned against the spread of misinformation, noting that such claims could undermine party unity and weaken the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections. The administration urged all stakeholders to rely on official communications and to avoid spreading unconfirmed information that could cause division.

The denial comes at a critical time as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections. With aspirants vying for party nominations, the government’s intervention aims to restore confidence in the electoral process and ensure a fair and peaceful political environment. The Taraba State Government’s stance reflects its commitment to upholding democratic values and maintaining party cohesion during this crucial period. As the election season approaches, all eyes will remain on how the APC manages its internal processes and candidate selection in Taraba State.
