Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Benue State in the 2027 election, has officially announced Dr. Oyije Ochaekiti Ogbenjuwa, 38, as his running mate. The announcement was made during the party’s congress held in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. Aondoakaa, a senior lawyer, emphasized that his administration would prioritize security, economic revival, and inclusive governance if elected.
Speaking at the congress, Aondoakaa outlined a clear vision for Benue’s future, stressing that his government’s top priority would be ending the persistent attacks and killings in communities across the state. He promised to guarantee the safety of lives and property in a sustainable and lasting manner, addressing the security challenges that have long affected the region. His pledge reflects growing public demand for peace and stability in Benue, a state frequently impacted by communal violence and insecurity.
Aondoakaa also highlighted agriculture as a cornerstone of his development agenda, vowing to revive the sector and accelerate rural development. He underscored Benue’s reputation as the “Food Basket of the Nation,” pledging to enhance food production, support farmers, and ensure agricultural sustainability. This focus aligns with national efforts to boost food security and reduce dependence on imports.
In addition to agriculture, the PDP candidate emphasized youth and women empowerment through job creation and enterprise development programs. He promised to create an enabling environment for young people and women to thrive economically, addressing unemployment and underemployment that have plagued the state. His administration also plans to improve infrastructure, expand access to quality healthcare, and enhance the standard of education across Benue.
Aondoakaa further committed to fostering industrial growth and economic expansion, aiming to attract investments and stimulate local industries. He stressed that his government would be built on the principles of justice, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that public resources are used efficiently and for the benefit of all citizens. He also pledged to promote unity and reconciliation among the people, transcending political, ethnic, and sectional divides.
The selection of Dr. Oyije Ochaekiti Ogbenjuwa as his running mate is seen as a strategic move to bring youth energy and fresh perspectives to the ticket. Ogbenjuwa’s background and experience are expected to strengthen the campaign’s appeal, particularly among younger voters. As the 2027 election approaches, Aondoakaa’s platform positions the PDP as a credible alternative in Benue’s political landscape. The coming months will likely see intensified campaigning as the party prepares to contest against other major political forces in the state.
