APC National Chairman Controversy: Confusion Erupts Over Emergence of New Leader Amid Party T

A fresh leadership crisis has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi, a political commentator and activist, declared herself the authentic chairperson of a faction of the ruling party, challenging the legitimacy of the current leadership. In a public statement released on Wednesday, Danladi asserted her claim to the position, stating she is the “true and authentic Chairperson” of the APC. She announced plans to file a legal challenge in the Federal High Court in Abuja to unseat what she described as an illegitimate leadership structure currently overseeing the party’s affairs. Danladi also revealed that her faction has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and will seek the withdrawal of recognition for the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Nentawe Yilwatda.

Danladi emphasized that her actions are aimed at restoring legality, due process, and internal democracy within the APC. She stated that the current leadership’s tenure is questionable and that judicial intervention is necessary to uphold the party’s integrity. “In light of recent developments within the party, I will be approaching the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the legitimacy of the current leadership,” she said. She further requested the court to direct INEC to discontinue recognition of the NWC under Yilwatda’s leadership, asserting that this step is crucial to protect the party’s constitutional framework and democratic principles.

Meanwhile, the officially recognised National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, is actively seeking support from key political figures to strengthen the party’s position. On Wednesday, Yilwatda visited the Mundubawa Palace in Kano, the residence of former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, where he appealed to Shekarau and Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo to rejoin the APC. During the visit, Yilwatda addressed them as his mentors, pleading for their guidance and support. “Come and help me, I am your son. I need your support, I need your mentorship. I am pleading with you to come and help me,” he said, urging them to return and help build a strong alliance for the North.

Shekarau, while appreciating Yilwatda’s personal outreach, noted that he and his associates are currently reviewing their political future. He emphasized that any decision would be guided by the overall interest of Kano State and ongoing consultations. The development highlights growing internal tensions within the APC, as competing leadership claims and factionalism threaten the party’s unity ahead of upcoming elections. The outcome of Danladi’s legal challenge and the response from Shekarau and Gwarzo could significantly influence the party’s direction in the near future.
