Mohammed Hayatu-Deen (OON) has received formal endorsement from key stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the South West ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Monday, with supporters citing his competence, integrity, and vision as the strongest qualifications for leading Nigeria out of its current economic and governance crisis. The endorsement, announced on Sunday by Babajide Dosunmu, Leader of the ADC South-West Professionals Forum, follows extensive consultations with party members, youth leaders, professionals, and mobilisers across the region.
Dosunmu emphasized that the decision to back Hayatu-Deen stems from a growing consensus that Nigeria can no longer tolerate experimental leadership, political theatrics, or recycled governance failures. He noted that the South West has long championed progressive politics, intellectual depth, and economic transformation, and that Hayatu-Deen embodies these values. “After thorough engagement, we are convinced that Mohammed Hayatu-Deen represents the kind of leadership Nigeria urgently requires at this critical moment,” Dosunmu stated.
The endorsement highlights Hayatu-Deen’s extensive background in banking, economic management, public policy, and institutional leadership as key assets in addressing Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship, rising unemployment, insecurity, and declining investor confidence. “At a time when millions of Nigerians are struggling to survive, when businesses are collapsing, and when young people are losing hope, Nigeria needs a leader with proven competence, discipline, and a serious understanding of how economies function,” the statement added. Hayatu-Deen’s professional experience is seen as uniquely suited to tackle the nation’s complex challenges.
Dosunmu also commended Hayatu-Deen’s conduct during the primary process, particularly his public call for all aspirants to commit to the ADC’s Governance Principles and Code of Ethics, known as The Orange Book. In a political environment often marked by power-seeking without accountability, Hayatu-Deen’s emphasis on integrity, issue-based discourse, and values-driven leadership has stood out. “Character matters. Integrity matters. Leadership matters,” Dosunmu stressed, underscoring the importance of ethical conduct in public office.
The ADC South-West Professionals Forum urged delegates attending Monday’s primaries to support Hayatu-Deen’s candidacy, arguing that the party has a historic opportunity to present Nigerians with a credible and competent alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group believes that choosing Hayatu-Deen is not just about selecting a candidate, but about shaping the future of the party and the nation. “The decision before delegates on Monday is bigger than personalities. It is about the future of our party and the future of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
With the ADC presidential primaries set to determine the party’s flagbearer, Hayatu-Deen’s growing support in the South West signals a strategic push to position him as a unifying and transformative figure in Nigeria’s political landscape. His campaign is expected to gain further momentum as the party moves closer to finalizing its national ticket.
