Two Foreigners Arrested in Ogun Over Alleged Burglary and Theft of Pumping Machines

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has arrested two suspects over the alleged burglary and theft of pumping machines in the Ajambata area along Sokoto Road, Atan-Ota, following a community distress call. The suspects, identified as Monday and Vovo, were apprehended on Monday after being caught with stolen equipment, marking a swift response by the security agency to protect property and maintain public safety in the region.

The So-Safe Corps operatives, on routine patrol, acted immediately upon receiving the alert from local residents. They moved quickly to the scene and successfully apprehended both suspects, who were later taken to the Atan Area Command for further processing. According to ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, the Corps Director of Information and Public Relations, the suspects are natives of Cotonou, Benin Republic, and have been residing in Atan—Monday for several years and Vovo for only a few months.

During preliminary questioning, Monday admitted that while he did not directly participate in the theft of the pumping machines, he regularly helped find buyers for stolen goods. This claim was corroborated by Vovo, who confirmed Monday’s role in facilitating the disposal of illicit items. The recovery of two pumping machines from the suspects was a significant breakthrough, and three individuals later came forward to identify and claim the recovered equipment, confirming their ownership.

The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at the Atan Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution. This handover underscores the collaborative efforts between state security agencies to combat crime and ensure justice is served. The So-Safe Corps continues to emphasize its mandate of safeguarding lives and property across Ogun State.

In a statement, State Commander Soji Ganzallo reiterated the Corps’ commitment to maintaining peace and security. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly, stressing that community cooperation is essential in preventing crime and supporting law enforcement operations. The successful arrest highlights the effectiveness of community-based policing and the importance of timely intelligence in tackling criminal acts.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by security agencies to address rising theft and burglary cases in urban areas. As Ogun State continues to grow, the need for robust security measures and public awareness remains critical. The So-Safe Corps’ latest operation reinforces its role as a frontline defender of public safety, setting a precedent for future interventions.
