Critical Minerals Financing Corporation Plc (CMFC) delivered a standout performance on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), surging 37.73 percent in a single week to become the second-best-performing stock on the bourse. The company’s shares climbed from N3.26 to N4.49, adding N1.23 per share, driven by sustained investor demand. This strong run builds on a broader rally that began in late September, marking CMFC as one of the most dynamic stocks in Nigeria’s equity market over recent weeks.
The momentum started on September 21 when CMFC traded at N2.04 per share. It rose steadily throughout the following days, gaining 9.80 percent to close at N2.24 on September 22, then moving to N2.46 on September 23, N2.70 on September 24, and finally reaching N2.97 on September 25. On that day, the stock gained another 9.76 percent to close at N3.26, which became the starting point for the latest weekly surge. From there, CMFC continued its upward trajectory, closing the week at N4.49 — a 37.73 percent gain in just five trading sessions.
Over the extended period from September 21 to the latest weekly close, CMFC’s share price has more than doubled, rising approximately 120.1 percent from N2.04 to N4.49. This translates to a gain of N2.45 per share. For an investor who had purchased N1 million worth of shares at the initial price of N2.04, the market value would have grown to roughly N2.20 million, excluding transaction costs and assuming full execution at the opening price.
CMFC’s impressive performance was only surpassed by ABC Transport, which recorded a 45.10 percent increase, climbing from N5.10 to N7.40. LivingTrust Mortgage Bank followed in third place with a 32.69 percent rise, moving from N2.60 to N3.45. VFD Group and CWG also saw gains of 18.42 percent and 15.28 percent respectively, highlighting a select group of outperformers amid broader market weakness.
In contrast, the NGX All-Share Index dipped 0.52 percent during the week, closing at 250,808.27 points. Market capitalisation also declined slightly by 0.50 percent to N162.843 trillion. Despite this overall downturn, CMFC’s resilience and strong investor interest underscore its growing appeal. The stock’s ability to outperform the index by over 38 percentage points highlights significant market confidence in its fundamentals and future prospects.
As CMFC continues to attract attention, investors are closely watching whether this momentum can be sustained amid evolving market conditions. The company’s performance may signal growing interest in critical minerals and related financial instruments within Nigeria’s emerging investment landscape.
