A suspected motorcycle-snatching syndicate operating in the Guyuk axis of southern Adamawa State has been dismantled by police, marking a significant security breakthrough in the region. The three suspects—Mohammed Saleh, Suleiman Mohammadu, and Ahmadu Damina—all hail from Shani Local Government Area in neighbouring Borno State. They were apprehended on 26th September 2026 after attacking and robbing Mr Abdu Buba, a resident of Bobini Village in Guyuk LGA, of his motorcycle. The incident occurred during daylight hours, drawing immediate attention from local residents and authorities.
The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the arrest through a press statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje. According to the statement, the suspects not only snatched the motorcycle but also inflicted injuries on the victim. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio was part of an organized group specializing in armed robberies, particularly targeting motorcyclists and stealing valuable belongings. Their modus operandi involved ambushing riders along rural roads and using cutlasses and other weapons to overpower victims.
Upon their arrest, a large crowd gathered at the scene, fueled by anger over the violent crime. There was a real danger of lynching, prompting swift intervention by police operatives and local hunters who worked together to disperse the mob and ensure the suspects’ safe custody. The police emphasized that maintaining law and order required both community vigilance and professional enforcement.
Mr Abdu Buba, the victim, was promptly taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment of his injuries. Authorities recovered several items from the suspects, including the stolen motorcycle, two cutlasses, a torchlight, and other personal effects linked to their criminal activities. These items are now being examined as evidence for further legal proceedings.
The arrest is seen as a major step toward curbing rising insecurity in the Guyuk area, where motorcycle thefts have become increasingly common. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately. With this operation, the command hopes to send a strong message to other potential criminals that such acts will not go unpunished.
As security agencies continue to strengthen patrols and coordinate with local communities, the dismantling of this syndicate may serve as a deterrent to similar criminal networks operating across the North-East region.
