A tragic road accident in Lagos State has claimed the life of a motorcyclist after a tipper truck loaded with sand collided with his motorcycle at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, on Thursday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 3:18 p.m., involved a tipper truck bearing the registration number 19F 992FG and resulted in the immediate death of an adult male passenger on the motorcycle. According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the agency’s Eagle Response Team was dispatched to the scene within 15 minutes of receiving the distress call.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the tipper driver lost control of the vehicle before striking the motorcycle from behind. The impact proved fatal, and despite swift emergency response efforts, the rider could not be saved. LASEMA responders, supported by paramedics from the Lagos Response Unit, officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and police officers, took charge of the scene to manage traffic and ensure safety. The deceased’s remains were recovered with dignity, placed in a body bag, and handed over to family members who were present at the location.
The damaged tipper truck and motorcycle were cleared from the road and moved to the Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation into the cause of the crash. Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that the emergency operation concluded successfully, and normal traffic flow in the area has since been restored. He extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim and urged all motorists, especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
