Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has pledged to implement the Oronsaye Committee Report if elected in the 2027 general elections, stating it offers a clear blueprint for reducing waste, duplication, and the overall cost of governance in Nigeria. In a statement released on Friday by his spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, Atiku criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing to act on the report despite previous promises, accusing the current administration of multiplying government agencies, including creating fake ones that serve no real purpose.
The Oronsaye Committee Report, which was established to review and streamline federal government operations, has long been seen as a critical tool for improving efficiency and accountability in public administration. Atiku emphasized that under his leadership, the report would not be left unimplemented but would be put into action immediately after his inauguration. He promised a transparent audit of all existing government agencies, particularly those created during Tinubu’s tenure, to identify redundancies and inefficiencies.
Atiku declared that unnecessary agencies would be eliminated, overlapping institutions merged, and significant savings redirected toward critical sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, job creation, and social protection. He stressed that Nigerians should not be expected to make sacrifices while government continues to squander public funds. “Nigeria does not need more promises. Nigeria needs action,” he stated firmly.
He further committed to leading by example by reducing the cost of governance starting from the presidency and extending to all government officials and their activities. Atiku said his administration would make government smarter, more efficient, and more accountable, ensuring that every naira spent serves the people effectively. His plan includes plugging leakages in public spending and ensuring that financial resources are used where they are most needed.
By prioritizing fiscal discipline and institutional reform, Atiku aims to restore public trust in governance and create a more responsive state. The announcement comes amid growing public concern over rising costs, inflation, and perceived mismanagement of national resources.
