Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has accused President Bola Tinubu of surrounding himself with incapable and corrupt officials, warning that the administration’s ongoing mismanagement will continue unless decisive action is taken. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, Ndume highlighted the presence of fake agencies operating under the presidency, including the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). He argued that these fraudulent entities are a direct result of poor leadership and lack of oversight at the highest levels of government.
The revelation of these fake agencies emerged from investigations conducted by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. According to Ndume, the discovery exposed deep-rooted systemic failures within the presidential office, raising serious questions about accountability and governance. He criticized the president for allowing what he described as “kakistocrats” — the worst or most incompetent individuals — to dominate key decision-making positions.
Ndume emphasized that if President Tinubu had truly capable hands in his administration, such scandals would not have occurred. “It is now a known thing that Nigeria has fake agencies that operate with offices,” he stated. He pointed out that even after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) launched its probe, more irregularities were uncovered, including the suspension of Permanent Secretaries linked to the presidency. Despite these findings, Ndume noted that the president has yet to take meaningful corrective measures.
He stressed that the continued tolerance of incompetence and corruption undermines public trust and damages Nigeria’s reputation both domestically and internationally. The senator urged the president to act swiftly to clean up the administration, remove unqualified personnel, and restore integrity to governance. Without such reforms, Ndume warned, the nation risks further economic decline and institutional decay.
The issue of fake agencies and unaccountable appointments has sparked widespread concern among Nigerians, especially as the country grapples with rising inflation, insecurity, and unemployment.
