A security personnel of the Edo State Security Corps, Martins Enahoro, was killed in a violent attack by suspected cultists in Ewatto, Esan South-East Local Government Area, on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The incident occurred around 12:20 pm and involved a confrontation between Enahoro and members of the Aro Berger confraternity, according to the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem. During the assault, Enahoro sustained multiple cut injuries while defending himself and reportedly stabbed one of the attackers, identified as Gbozia, before succumbing to his wounds.
Both Enahoro and the attacker, Gbozia, were rushed to God’s Will Hospital in Ewohimi, where they were pronounced dead by medical staff. Their bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary for further investigation. ASP Ikoedem confirmed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing, with two of them confessing to being members of the Vikings and Aiye confraternities. The suspects have been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for questioning, while police continue efforts to apprehend other fleeing individuals believed to be involved.
The police spokesperson named some of the assailants, including Gbozia and Gezo, though their full surnames remain unknown. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was unprovoked and part of a broader pattern of violence targeting security operatives in the region. Ikoedem emphasized that such acts constitute serious criminal offences and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The Edo State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice is served and public safety is restored.
