A High Court in Kano State has sentenced Saudat Jibril, a newlywed woman, to death by hanging for the murder of her husband, Salisu Idris, just nine days after their wedding in May 2025. The trial concluded with Justice Maryam Sabo delivering the verdict, finding the prosecution’s evidence sufficient to convict the defendant beyond reasonable doubt. The incident took place in Farawa, a community within Kumbotso Local Government Area, where the couple had been married for only nine days before the tragic event unfolded. The sentence is now pending any possible appeal, which could be filed within the legal timeframe allowed by Nigerian law.
