A 40-year-old man, Mustapha Yahaya, has been arrested in Bauchi State for allegedly impersonating a Department of State Services (DSS) officer. The arrest took place in the early hours of Monday, July 27, 2026, during a routine patrol by operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) along Bayan Gari in Bauchi metropolis. Yahaya, a resident of Ran Road, Bauchi, was apprehended after being found in suspicious circumstances during the patrol.
Upon questioning, the suspect claimed to be a DSS personnel attached to the Bauchi State Command. However, police investigations quickly confirmed that his claim was false. The Bauchi State Police Command stated that Yahaya is not affiliated with the DSS in any capacity, and his attempt to pose as a security officer is part of a growing trend of impersonation in the state.
The suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing further interrogation. Authorities have stated that he will be formally charged in court once the investigation is complete.
