The Oyo State Police Command has recovered a stolen tricycle and arrested a suspected armed robber in Ilorin, Kwara State, following a swift intelligence-led operation. The incident occurred after police received credible information about the suspect’s movements, leading to a coordinated stop-and-search in the Irepo area. The tricycle, registered under Lagos EPE 236 QR, was intercepted, and the rider, Akindele Seun, 31, was apprehended. According to the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation was executed by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit, who acted promptly to prevent the vehicle from being further exploited.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to robbing the tricycle’s owner at gunpoint in Ilorin, Kwara State, before fleeing with the vehicle into Oyo State. The confession confirmed the criminal act and provided crucial details about the crime’s origin and trajectory. The recovered tricycle has now been taken into police custody, and efforts are underway to trace and identify its rightful owner for safe return. The police are also conducting further investigations to determine if any other individuals were involved in the robbery or aided in the transportation of the stolen property.
The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s firm stance against criminal activities. He emphasized that Oyo State will not be used as a safe haven for criminals or as a transit point for stolen goods. He stressed that anyone involved in crimes committed within or outside the state, especially those attempting to move stolen property into Oyo, will face the full force of the law. Olugbenga assured residents that the command remains committed to eradicating crime and maintaining public safety.
He also urged the public to continue providing timely and reliable information to support police operations. The commissioner highlighted that community cooperation is vital in combating crime and ensuring justice is served. The successful recovery of the tricycle and arrest of the suspect demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing in Oyo State. This incident underscores the police’s proactive approach in tackling armed robbery and other forms of criminality.
The Oyo State Police Command’s actions send a clear message to potential offenders: crime will not be tolerated, and the law will be enforced without exception. As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on restoring public confidence and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state. This case also highlights the importance of cross-state collaboration in crime prevention and the need for sustained vigilance in securing Nigeria’s communities.
