The Osun State chapter of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) has officially distanced itself from a faction known as the YPP Decampees Group, which recently aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a campaign rally in Ede. The party firmly rejected claims made by the group, emphasizing that its members do not represent the legitimate YPP structure ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election. In a statement released on Tuesday by the State Publicity Secretary, Animasahun Saheed, the YPP clarified its position following consultations with the State Working Committee, Local Government Executives, and key stakeholders across the state.
The YPP stated it does not recognize, endorse, or have any affiliation with the individuals who addressed the APC rally in Ede. The party reiterated that it remains fully operational and united across all 30 local government areas of Osun State, including the Ede Federal Constituency. According to the statement, any member who voluntarily defects to another political party automatically loses their membership and authority to speak or act on behalf of the YPP in any capacity.
The party emphasized that the names and titles used by the individuals at the APC rally are not recognized by the Osun YPP leadership as official party positions. It reaffirmed its commitment to its core principles of transparency, accountability, youth inclusion, and people-centred governance. The YPP also made it clear that it is not engaged in any merger discussions with other political parties and remains focused on its own electoral goals.
“We are not in merger talks with any party, and we are fully mobilized ahead of the August 15th, 2026 Governorship election to present credible candidates under the YPP platform and to advance our own PROSPERITY AGENDA for the people of Osun,” the statement declared. The party urged the public, media, and supporters to disregard the claims made by the dissenting group, describing them as inconsistent with the official stance of the Osun State chapter.
The statement further alleged that the actions of the group were orchestrated by Alexander-Roast Tadenikawo Adeleke and other disgruntled members. The YPP called on genuine members and supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the party’s growth and objectives. As the political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2026 elections, the Osun YPP remains focused on building its grassroots support and presenting a strong, independent alternative in the state.
