The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has issued a strict directive banning all its candidates and aspirants from pasting campaign posters on roundabouts and public monuments across the state, citing environmental degradation and disrespect for public infrastructure. The party’s leadership emphasized that such actions undermine government efforts to beautify urban areas and promote cleanliness. The directive, issued by State Publicity Secretary Mohammed Umar, follows growing concerns over the defacement of newly constructed and renovated public facilities in Sokoto metropolis and surrounding communities.
State Chairman of the APC, Haruna S. G. Adiya, described the indiscriminate display of campaign materials on public infrastructure as irresponsible and unacceptable. He stressed that the party is committed to environmental cleanliness and urban development, and that political campaigns must not come at the expense of public property. “The government has invested significant resources in beautifying public spaces, but those efforts are being undermined by political actors who continue to paste campaign posters on these facilities,” Adiya stated.
He further condemned the practice as environmental abuse and visual pollution, warning that it reflects a clear disregard for public infrastructure. Adiya emphasized that all political activities must be conducted within legal boundaries and with respect for public assets. The party will not tolerate any actions that damage its image or hinder government initiatives aimed at improving the environment and city aesthetics.
All APC candidates and their campaign teams have been ordered to immediately remove any posters already affixed to roundabouts and public monuments. They are also instructed to refrain from further violations. “Any candidate or campaign team that fails to comply with this directive will face disciplinary action in line with the party’s constitution and internal regulations,” Adiya warned. He added that no one is above party discipline and that the APC remains committed to responsible political engagement.
The party also urged its members and the general public to report any instances of poster vandalism or environmental abuse to the appropriate authorities and the APC’s disciplinary committee. This collaborative approach aims to ensure accountability and protect public infrastructure during the election season.
