Seven people lost their lives and five others were injured in a fatal road crash along the Bauchi-Maiduguri Highway on Saturday, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The accident occurred at Kajutu village in Bauchi State and involved a commercial Galaxy Sharon bus with registration number KRF 198XA and a MAN diesel tipper truck without a visible registration number. The FRSC confirmed that the collision happened at approximately 12:05 p.m., with emergency personnel arriving at the scene just 17 minutes later at 12:22 p.m. after being alerted two minutes after the crash.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC attributed the crash to traffic signal violation and dangerous driving, especially on a rough stretch of the paved highway. The incident involved a total of 12 people—10 adult males, one adult female, and one male child. Of these, seven adult males died at the scene, while the remaining five sustained injuries. The deceased have been identified as Garba Babaji, Alkali Galadima, Aliyu Samanja, Abba Abbo, Amadu Guruza, Rabiu Baura, and Ibrahim Gucho Officer. All victims were reported to be residents of Misau Local Government Area in Bauchi State.
Rescue teams from the FRSC evacuated the injured and the bodies of the deceased to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi. Medical personnel confirmed the deaths and are currently treating the injured victims at the facility. Items recovered from the accident site included six Android phones, five keypad phones, ₦34,250 in cash, three caps, a travelling bag, and a wallet. These items are being held for possible identification and return to next of kin.
The tragedy has drawn reactions from public figures, including former lawmaker Senator Isah Hamma Misau, who expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Misau. He described the incident as heartbreaking and prayed for the peaceful repose of the victims’ souls. Senator Misau also urged all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar accidents on Nigeria’s roads. His appeal underscores growing concerns over road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws across the country.
