A farmer has been killed in a fresh attack by suspected gunmen in Butura Gida village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, sparking renewed alarm over escalating insecurity in the region. The incident occurred at approximately 7:47 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, according to a post shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X. Troops from Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, but by the time they arrived, the attackers had already fled the scene. Security personnel discovered the lifeless body of the victim but were unable to apprehend the assailants or recover any weapons.
Security sources cited by Makama confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing. The attack marks another tragic incident in a series of violent clashes that have plagued Plateau State in recent weeks. Just under 24 hours before this latest killing, a 13-year-old herder named Mustapha Abdul Kadir was found dead in Mangu Local Government Area, along with four of his cattle. Earlier on the same day, two residents were also killed in Torok community, located in Riyom Local Government Area, in an attack blamed on suspected Fulani bandits.
