Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged murder and secret burial of Hannah, a woman from Kebbi State, in a case that has sent shockwaves through Benin City and surrounding communities. The suspects, who include the deceased’s boyfriend identified as Daddy Alli from Taraba State, were paraded by the Deputy Corps Commander in Charge of Operations, Richard Balogun, during a press briefing in the state capital. According to Balogun, the suspects conspired to kill Hannah and then secretly dispose of her body in an attempt to evade detection and hinder any investigation into her death.
The arrest followed a critical intelligence report from officers of the Ovia North East Local Government Area operations and tactical teams. These officers detected suspicious activity and relayed the information to higher command, leading to a swift response by the ESSC. The suspects were apprehended after it was revealed that they had transported Hannah’s body to an uncompleted building, where they buried her in a shallow grave. This act was reportedly intended to conceal the crime and mislead authorities.
Balogun confirmed that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the murder and burial. He emphasized that the ESSC remains committed to ensuring justice is served and that all individuals involved in such heinous crimes are brought to account. The suspects have now been handed over to the Ekiadolo Police Division for further interrogation and investigation into the full circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death. Authorities are working to establish the exact motive behind the crime and whether other individuals were involved.
One suspect, identified as Dada, remains at large, and Balogun assured the public that ESSC officers are actively pursuing him. He urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the apprehension of the fugitive. The case has raised concerns about gender-based violence and the need for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable individuals, especially in urban areas where such crimes may go unnoticed for extended periods.
This incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and the role of intelligence-driven policing in combating violent crimes. The ESSC’s swift action demonstrates its capability to respond to serious criminal activities and uphold public safety. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to release more details about the case, including the timeline of events leading to Hannah’s death. The case is likely to prompt renewed calls for improved security and justice for victims of violent crimes in Edo State and beyond.
